TECFIDERA and generics

The importance of actively managing your Tecfidera® (dimethyl fumarate) prescription

Your pharmacy could automatically substitute a generic treatment for your brand-name TECFIDERA, if your existing prescription doesnʼt specify "Dispense as Written (DAW)," or the wording required by your state regulations. This could affect your access to Biogen Support Services.

Patients who are prescribed a Biogen therapy are eligible for Biogen Support Services. Once you are prescribed a Biogen therapy, you have access to personalized support for as long as you are on treatment. This access includes one-on-one support with a Biogen Support Coordinator, who can help you understand your insurance coverage and medication costs. Nurse Educators are also available to offer support throughout your time on a Biogen treatment and answer any questions you may have.

If you and your healthcare provider decide to continue treatment with brand-name TECFIDERA, follow these tips to help manage your treatment as discussed:

1

For any new refill prescriptions, make sure your healthcare provider includes specific language such as "Dispense as Written (DAW)" or the wording indicated by your state regulations.

2

Call your specialty pharmacy to confirm your brand-name TECFIDERA prescription. Your pharmacy may automatically substitute generic dimethyl fumarate for your brand-name TECFIDERA prescription without notifying you. Tell your pharmacist you'd like to continue to receive brand-name TECFIDERA. In certain situations, you may need your healthcare provider to write a new prescription with the appropriate wording.

3

When you receive your treatment, check that your pill bottle says
"Tecfidera®."
If it doesn’t, then it’s a generic version of TECFIDERA.
